A Historic Milestone: Cadillac’s Entry into Formula 1

In a groundbreaking development for American motorsport, Cadillac is set to make history as the first American factory constructor in Formula 1.

They will be joining the grid in 2026 through a partnership with Andretti Global. Mario Andretti, who was the last American F1 champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board.

The Andretti-Cadillac team will initially compete using Ferrari power units, with General Motors planning to develop its own powertrain technology in the future.

Dan Towriss will lead the team’s operations, following Michael Andretti’s strategic step back from the project.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, has expressed strong support for this initiative, highlighting the significance of bringing a GM/Cadillac branded team to Formula 1.

The team will debut with a completely new car design specifically developed for the 2026 season. While General Motors has confirmed its eventual plans to become an engine supplier, this capability will be implemented at a later date due to development timeline constraints.
