Blue Collar Brain is looking for industry experts to help us make some noise about the skilled trades.

Whether you are a skilled trade worker, educator, or a writer that is passionate about helping people find a path into the trades – we want to hear from you.

How to pitch us

Please send pitches to jill@bluecollarbrain.com and include 1-3 paragraphs explaining your pitch, angle and format. We encourage you to read more about us and our mission before sending your pitch. Unless specified below, please label your pitch with the subject line “BCB Pitch” followed by the topic. Information on this page is subject to change; check back often.

What we are looking for

Interviews and profiles

Help us amplify leaders and up-and-comers in the trades. Share their careers, personal stories or perspectives we may not often hear about. Please only pitch an interview or profile if you have established contact with your subject.

Trade industry commentary and critiques

We are an open forum for your critiques on the skilled trade industry. Apart from sharing your views, we’d like commentary supported by research and other credible sources.

Narrative journalism

These longer features should include unique perspectives on issues within the skilled trade and vocational industry. These features should be well-researched and sourced, and while providing a point-of-view, do not explicitly express your personal opinion on these issues.

News

We welcome quick-turn, non-breaking news stories. Please label general news pitches with the subject line “BCB NEWS PITCH” followed by the topic.

Personal essays

Are you navigating your career in the skilled trades and want to share your story? We’d like to hear from you. Share your experiences and lessons you’ve learned so far that you wish you knew when you started out.

Reviews

Each review should be for new or upcoming schools, products, or industry related products. We ask that you have access to this media prior to pitching and to provide a well-researched and sourced piece to support your opinions.

Payment

Payment is available for personal stories and content submissions from writers and skilled trade workers. Brands (schools, retailers, nonprofit organizations, etc.) that are submitting content will not receive payment, but will receive brand awareness and a link back to their website.

Our current rates to writers and personal submissions are $100 per accepted contribution of 750-950 words. We ask you to send an invoice for your work and you will be paid within 15 days of publication. If we can no longer publish your work, we will pay a 50% cancellation fee.
