To become an HVAC technician in Texas, you will need to get a Class A or Class B license. The Class A license will allow you to work on units of all sizes. The Class B license only allows you to work on 25 tons of cooling systems and 1.5 million BTUs/hour heating units.

You will need to be at least 18 years old to apply for HVAC licensing and should be a Texas resident.

At least four years working as an apprentice under a licensed HVAC expert within the last 6 years is required.

Once you meet the requirements you will need to take the ACR contractors exam.
