When you are out on the roads every day, the cars can become a sea of boring. But people are doing some pretty cool things to customize their rides. Some are cool, some are crazy – but they will all make you do a double take if you catch them in the wild. 

Edsel Pacer Backhoe/Front-Loader

This creation comes from a contracting firm in Texas called Spaw Maxwell. The junkyard-bound car was brought back to life for entry into the 2006 Houston Art Car parade. In just two months, the team redesigned it to become a front-loader with a backhoe. The car would go on to win first place in the performance division and third place overall. 

Ford Beatnik Bubbletop

Auto designer Gary “Chopit” Fioto customized a 1955 Ford into a Bubbletop design.  He added the nickname Beatnik after his beloved car club. It features a Chevrolet 250 cubic inch small-nlock V-8 and a serpentine belt system, all of which can be seen through the hood. 

Tri-Magnum 3-Wheeler

The Tri-Magnum is a unique reverse-trike vehicle that was available as a kit in the 1980s. It combines a custom steel frame with a VW Beetle front suspension and a motorcycle drivetrain, typically from a Honda Gold Wing.

The vehicle features a fiberglass body with a forward-tilting canopy to access the snug two-person cabin. Despite its striking ’80s styling, the Tri-Magnum lacks practical features like air conditioning and luggage space. Some groups still talk about this car and you might still find plans in them if you want to build your own!

The Jetsons had nothing on this guy. Found driving along I-465 in Indiana is this one-of-a-kind UFO vehicle. Not much could be found about it, but there are other reports of people seeing it around town.

The Big Banana Car

Banana lovers rejoice. There is now a car for you. The Big Banana Car has driven coast to coast since 2011, showing off its one-of-a-kind look. Built by Steve Braithwaite and friends, it took about 2.5 years to complete. The banana car drives on the frame of a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The car has been featured on America’s Got Talent and had a Matchbox toy created from it.

The Litestar/Pulse

It looks like an aircraft but is based on a motorcycle. The Litestar, later called Pulse, was the only product of the Owosso Motor Car Company. It was a two-wheeled motorcycle with two additional outrigger wheels, which gave it stability. The fiberglass body allowed room for two people and gave the vehicle a total length of 192 inches. It is estimated that 21 vehicles were made with Litestar branding and 347 with Pulse branding.

Out of Massachusetts we have this strange two-faced truck that will definitely make you do a double take. Two Chevy Silverado front-ends were merged together to create one truck. But you can only drive it from one side!

DecoLiner

The DecoLiner, built by Randy Grubb (aka Blastolene), was built on a 1973 GMC motorhome chassis. It also uses a cab from a 1953 White COE garbage truck. One of the coolest features of the DecoLiner is the fully functioning fly-bridge where a driver can steer the vehicle from the roof. Grubb sold this one and only double decker motorhome for $500,000 in 2020.
